CMU Selects - the last week’s standout releases

Our selection of five releases that cut through the noise this week, from Kelela, A.K. Paul, La Roux, Ravyn Lenae, Phoebe Bridgers + Tyler, The Creator

CMU Selects - the last week’s standout releases

Kelela’s new single ‘outta time’ (featuring A.K. Paul)

Aaliyah if she lived to make that industrial album with Nine Inch Nails. Kelela and A.K. Paul are two generational talents coming together on this one.

La Roux’s new single ‘Babyline’

Synthy, upliftingly sad La Roux - exactly what she does best. There’s even a Rick Astley-ish suit and dance moves combo in the video.

Tyler, The Creator’s new single ‘THAT GUY’

A Christmas Day 2024 YouTube freestyle over Kendrick’s ‘hey now’ beat. It’s Tyler stating his case over Cali-leaning production, loose and completely locked in at the same time.

Ravyn Lenae’s new single ‘Saturday Night’

Silk and static. 80s-infused electro-funk with Lenae’s voice right at the centre of it.

Phoebe Bridgers’ new single ‘Lost Boys’

Jangly indie-pop built around a chorus about Peter Pan syndrome, celebratory trumpets that echo ‘Kyoto’, and a co-write with Bo Burnham.
