CMU Selects - the last week’s standout releases

Our selection of five releases that cut through the noise this week, from Faerybabyy, Nia Archives, QOTSA, Rose Gray + Wings of Desire

CMU Selects - the last week’s standout releases

Faerybabyy’s new single ‘tough luck’

This track has a nostalgic ‘schools out for summer’ vibe - produced by The Drums’ Frank Corr and the first preview of a second album that’s shaping up to be very good indeed.

Nia Archives new album ‘Emotional Junglist’

Out today. Breakbeats and heartbreak at full speed, with a live band for the first time, James Ford on production, Sampha and Jorja Smith showing up exactly when needed. Side one: falling in love. Side two: the crash. One of the year’s best.

Queens Of The Stone Age’s new single ‘Easy Street’

Acoustic guitar, handclaps, woozy synths, it’s the first new QOTSA music since 2023 and it sounds like nothing they’ve done before. Homme and Nikki Lane, no click track, mistakes left in. “It’s like hitting your funny bone, where it’s funny because it hurts and it hurts because it’s funny”.

Rose Gray’s new single ‘Just Be Bodies’

Such a nice companion to ‘Club To Your Arms’, Gray’s vocal right at the front of a sparkly and euphoric house track. She’s on a run right now

Wings Of Desire’s new single ‘The Way You Feel’

Motorik percussion, sweeping synths, krautrock-inflected sentimentality. It’s part of a project releasing a single on every new moon of 2026, with the video being a pagan heralding of summer, with Boss Morris dancing alongside the all-female morris dancing collective who performed with Wet Leg at the 2023 BRITs.
