CMU Selects - the last week’s standout releases

Our selection of five releases that cut through the noise this week, from Pretty Sick, Headie One, BAMBII, Che Mario, Ray Laurél + H.LLS

CMU Selects - the last week’s standout releases

Pretty Sick’s new single ‘City Kid’

Oscar Scheller production, molten synths and huge trap drums, with Sabrina Fuentes herself in deadpan: “Booked a big stage, now can’t nobody fuck with me / Cameras flash, nothing lasts, everybody touchin me”. She also says “get wrecked” a lot of times. Nostalgic right down to the Hervé Léger Metallic Foil Bandage Dress she wears in the video.

Headie One’s new single ‘Turnt To A Target’

Spooky, trappy and the first material from the upcoming ‘Monday Marathon Music’ mixtape. It’s drill at its most precise - still one of the best.

BAMBII’s new single ‘Hot Girls’ (featuring Che Mario)

A tactical assault on sub-bass frequencies. It’s pure, unadulterated club heat, with Che Mario’s vocal right in the pocket.

Ray Laurél’s new single ‘She Matters To Me’

That sublime falsetto! Stripped back this time, vulnerable and indie-slanted, with room to breathe. Gorgeous.

H.LLS’ new single ‘HMU’

Fluttering up top, all bounce below, with sleazy verses repeatedly swallowed by jolting, high-pressure breakdowns. Very good.
