CMU Selects - the last week’s standout releases

Our selection of five releases that cut through the noise this week, from Willie J Healey, Ceebo & Blanco, RIO KOSTA, DIIV, Shay Lia + KAYTRANADA

CMU Selects - the last week’s standout releases

Willie J Healey’s new EP ‘143’

Twangy and gorgeously tape-warm. It’s home 4-track recordings stitched together with New York sessions, the guitar effects ending up somewhere near sitar. The whole thing drifts somewhere into Mac DeMarco-adjacent loveliness .

DIIV’s new single ‘Kid’

A.G. Cook was brought in to reconstruct their demos, decided instead to capture their live sound, and the result is DIIV brighter. It’s shoegaze pushed toward something more pop-facing.

Shay Lia & KAYTRANADA’s new single ‘SO GOOD’

Shay Lia's Djiboutian-French warmth over KAYTRANADA's signature bouncy Montreal house. They first made magic together on 'Leave Me Alone' back in 2014, and a decade on, nothing has changed.

RIO KOSTA’s new single ‘Slowly’

It’s time-hopping psychedelic funk, complete with harmonic falsettos, and a sound that drifts between sun-bleached California and something more Mediterranean, courtesy of Kosta's Greek heritage.

Ceebo & Blanco’s new single ‘Gets Like Dat’

Ceebo grew up on Blanco's music; now they're on the same track talking about the same industry doing the same things to both of them.
