Jamie Cullum has become a 'Young Ambassador' for the Samaritans, to help raise awareness of the charity as well as helping to raise funds for the organisation. The singer has apparently already supported the charity for a number of years, raising around £12k via donations at his website and collections at his concert. "I have considered Samaritans one of my favourite charities for a long time," says the star, "It's good that younger people in society can do something positive to support such a worthwhile cause."
The Samaritans rebranded itself recently, apparently as part of an attempt to reach out to those in emotional trouble instead of just its traditional concern - those considering suicide. Cullum said that he was looking forward to the new role and to being "an active and involved Young Ambassador", especially in light of the fact that "the young are also one of the higher risk groups when it comes to emotional support".
