Dirty Pretty Things set cut short by police at SXSW

Dirty Pretty Things had their SXSW set in Austin cut short by police after five songs, which the band say was their first US show.

Well, in the normal scheme of things, it's Doherty who gets stopped by police, but on this occasion, it was his fellow former Libertine Carl Barat, although it wasn't because he was erratically driving a car in the possession of class A drugs. Rather, Barat's band, Dirty Pretty Things, had their set at SXSW cut short by local law enforcement last week.

The group were to appear onstage at the Eternal venue in Austin at midnight, directly following a set by The Flaming Lips. The show was running late however, and their performance was halted when police arrived after just five songs, presumably to enforce noise abatement laws of some kind.

A source told NME.com: "Everything was running late from the beginning. The Flaming Lips came on late, Dirty Pretty Things didn't go on stage until just after 12:30 played five numbers before the plug was pulled on Didz [Hammond, bassist]. The band tried to play on, but the police arrived and flashed their badges at the tour manager and the soundman, with arrests looking likely the band had to leave the stage. The band are very frustrated as it was their first show in US."
