Doherty arrested over snapper attack

Pete Doherty has been arrested and bailed over an alleged August assault on photographer Cath Mead in Crewkerne, Somerset.

Now obviously I'd never advocate violence in any circumstances, though I do sometimes wonder whether, if your paparazzo, you shouldn't have to accept that every so often one of the c'lebs you're trailing might give you a thump, or try to smash your camera. Surely it comes with the territory.

Anyway, Pete Doherty has been formally charged over that incident back in August when he allegedly lashed out at a photographer called Cath Mead. Mead claims that Doherty, with his then-girlfriend Irina Lazareanu in Somerset at the time, chased her into a music shop, kicked her, pulled her hair and damaged her camera after she tried to snap the couple.

Mead reported the incident to police at the time, and a spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police told Amateur Photographer magazine on Tuesday: "On Monday 3 December officers from the Met arrested a 28-year-old on behalf of Avon and Somerset Police. He was arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage in relation to an incident in Crewkerne on Wednesday 22 August. He has been given police bail pending further enquiries and he will be required to attend Crewkerne Police Station on a date in January".

To be fair to Mead, I'm not sure she's really a true paparazzo, and it has been alleged Doherty had been voluntarily posing for photos prior to the run in. Though if I was photographing Doherty, I think I'd always be ready to turn and run, just in case.
