Doherty charged with possession

Pete Doherty is charged with possession of cocaine and heroin and will appear at Ealing Magistrates' Court, while guitarist Patrick Walden has reportedly quit Babyshambles.

Pete Doherty has been formally charged with possession of cocaine and heroin, and will appear at Ealing Magistrates' court today. The charge follows that previously reported incident back in November, when the Babyshambles singer was stopped whilst driving in west London and subsequently detained by police on suspicion of possessing class A drugs.

Reports have been circulating, meanwhile, that Doherty invited fans to join him in court at the Babyshambles gig at KoKo on Monday. When asked for a response to that alleged invite, a police spokeswoman said: "If there is an incident, then we will deal with it accordingly."

Elsewhere in Babyshambles news, guitarist Patrick Walden has reportedly quit the band, who are currently playing without him as a three piece. According to the NME, at the aforementioned Koko gig, in addition to reading out his own charge sheet for the benefit of the crowd, Doherty also mocked Walden, saying: "Patrick Walden - misuse of the guitar act. I'm paying my penance for it now."
