Dr Dre still locked in Eminem's basement

Dr Dre's album 'Detox' will not be released this year because he is producing Eminem's 'Relapse', Interscope-Geffen-A&M chairman Jimmy Iovine has told Billboard.

Dr Dre's long-awaited (although not by Guns N Roses standards) new album 'Detox', will not now be released this year, as originally expected, because he is just too busy working on Eminem's new album, 'Relapse', to finish his own new long player.

Relapse? Detox? Is this some kind of joke? Or perhaps it's a comment on the nature of celebrity culture in the 21st century. Or maybe they're just words they liked.

Anyway, Dre apparently abandoned work on 'Detox' in order to produce Eminem's album, and, as previously reported, work on the new Slim Shady album has dragged on longer than expected pushing the release of that record back into 2009 too.

But, according to Interscope-Geffen-A&M chairman Jimmy Iovine, Dre will be back in the studio working on his own material in January. Iovine told Billboard: "He'll be finished with Eminem by then, and he'll finish his album. Eminem was always coming next year. But what happened was, I lost Dr. Dre to Eminem. Dre had to stop making his album to finish Eminem's album. Eminem hit a streak, and when a guy like Eminem gets on fire, you stop everything. That's how we lost Dre".
