Elton John celebrates 60th birthday with Madison Square Garden gig

Elton John marked his 60th birthday with a sold-out 20,000-capacity concert at Madison Square Garden, introduced on stage by former US president Bill Clinton.

Elton John has staged a concert at New York's Madison Square Garden to celebrate his 60th birthday. The singer was introduced to the sold out 20,000 capacity venue by former US president Bill Clinton.

Clinton said: "Thank you for coming tonight to help celebrate Elton joining my favourite club, the 60-year-olds' club. I love it every time he plays. He reminds me we still have some youth left".

It was a double celebration, because it's apparently the sixtieth time he's appeared at the venue also. In recent years Elton had expressed a desire to be in New York for the special anniversary, saying: "I knew I had done 59 shows at Madison Square Garden and I said the only place I want to be is New York City on my 60th birthday".
