Elton John loses appeal

Elton John has lost his appeal against a High Court ruling that former accountants Pricewaterhousecoopers were not negligent in charging him overseas tour expenses.

Elton John has lost his appeal against a high court ruling that his former accountants Pricewaterhousecoopers were not negligent in charging him overseas tour expenses totaling $20 million. John sued PWC and his management company John Reid Enterprises back in 2000, claiming a previous profit share agreement meant he was exempt from paying international tour expenses. The UK courts disagreed calling on John to settle the debt, a decision backed by the appeal courts yesterday. John, who had already reached an out of court settlement with JRE, will now have to pay the accountancy firm their fee and legal costs. As yet John’s lawyers have not applied to take the case to the House of Lords, the next step up in any appeal process.
