Elton on Live 8: "a charisma free anti-climax"

Elton John calls Live 8 an anti-climax with few musical highlights, and says Pete Doherty was a mess on the night after perfect rehearsals.

Elton John has been at it again, this time dissing Live 8. In an interview with the Telegraph he has said Geldof's G8 protest-fest was "an anti-climax" - adding that while he was pleased to take part he felt the whole show lacked musical highlights.

Elton: "I was very pleased to be a part of it, but I didn't think it was anywhere near as good as the first one. How could it be? The thought behind it was fantastic but Hyde Park is a charisma-free zone. There was no sense of occasion and from a musical point, I didn't think there were too many highlights."

John also commented on that duet with Pete Doherty. As previously reported, the former Libertine's Live 8 performance has been generally panned, with some of those nasty media types (not us, we might add) suggesting the singer was high on drugs as he tried to add his vocals to 'Children Of The Revolution'. John tells the Telegraph that Doherty had been perfect in rehearsals, but says that on the night Doherty suffered from nerves. Describing Doherty as "a mess", he added: "I don't think the people around him set a good example, which is a shame."
