Elvis compilation hits number one

Elvis compilation The King has gone straight to number one on the album chart, knocking off Kate Nash's Made Of Bricks, though Suspicious Minds missed the singles top 10.

The bosses at SonyBMG must be rubbing their fingers in delight at the news that yet another Elvis compilation has hit number one. Coinciding with the previously reported commemorations of the 30th anniversary of Elvis' death, the new release, 'The King', went straight to the top of the charts, knocking off Kate Nash's 'Made Of Bricks', which had debuted there the previous week.

There wasn't such good news for the Elvis cash-in camp in the singles market, however, where the re-release of 'Suspicious Minds' failed to break the top 10, though with weekly releases of Elvis songs planned up until 3 Dec, presumably some of them will do better.

Despite the single chart disappointment, a spokesperson for the major expressed their delight at the album success, presumably whilst rolling in a pot of money. They told reporters: "We are delighted that Elvis has taken his rightful place at the top of the charts on the week commemorating the 30th anniversary of his passing away. He was and remains the greatest entertainer the world has ever seen and he will always be the King of Rock & Roll".
