Fats Domino collects his stuff

Fats Domino has returned to New Orleans to salvage belongings after Hurricane Katrina, reclaiming three of his 21 gold records with help from his son-in-law.

The legendary Fats Domino, who went missing and was presumed dead by some following the devastation wrought on his home city by Hurricane Katrina, has returned to New Orleans to salvage some of his belongings. The 77 year old was in fact rescued the day the storm hit, but confusion as to his whereabouts in the days following the storm led fans to believe he had not survived the natural disaster. "There was a big 'Rest in Peace' on my balcony on the other house. I'm still here, thank God," said Domino, adding "I sure do appreciate that people think so much about me."

Domino, assisted by son in law Charles Brimmer, managed to reclaim three of his 21 gold records, as well as other mementoes and some jewellery, but some things could not be saved. Two pianos from one of his properties were completely ruined, as was a photograph of the star pictured alongside Elvis Presley.
