Former Spiralfrog execs launch digital music ad agency

Former Spiralfrog executives Robin Kent and Lance Ford have launched Rebel Digital, an advertising consultancy, with ad-funded music service Qtrax as their first client.

Two former executives from Spiralfrog have launched an advertising consultancy that will focus on "digital media opportunities". The company, called Rebel Digital, has been founded by Robin Kent and Lance Ford, who were CEO and Chief Sales & Marketing Officer for the yet to launch ad funded digital music service before a string of senior executives quit the Frog company at the start of the year.

The duo say their new company will sell advertising and develop marketing plans for web based music services that are built around an ad revenue model, like Spiralfrog. Their first clients will be one of their former employer's main competitors, Qtrax, who are also planning an ad-funded music service, and who have just announced a licensing deal with SonyBMG.

As previously reported, there has been much speculation about the future of Spiralfrog since the departure of Kent, Ford and their colleagues at the start of the year, though the service's founder, Joe Mohen, has insisted that the company continues to move forward, despite delays in its launch. The company is reportedly conducting an invite only beta trial in Canada.
