Former Viacom boss gets stake in satellite radio group

Mel Karmazin will reportedly receive a 2% stake in Sirius as part of his appointment as CEO, and Sirius may try to bring Howard Stern forward.

More on the appointment of former Viacom boss Mel Karmazin to the top job at US satellite radio company Sirius - the radio home of Eminem and soon to be the home of Howard Stern. According to the New York Post Karmazin will get a 2% stake in the company as part of his appointment to the CEO post.

Meanwhile, and talking of Sirius and Stern, word is the former is trying to get the latter out of his contract with Infinity Radio so that he can start broadcasting on the satellite network sometime next year (and not in 2006 as currently planned). Word is such a deal could cost Sirius $180 million - though presumably Karmazin can pull some strings, given that Infinity is owned by his former employer Viacom.
