George Michael to play first gig at new Wembley Stadium

George Michael is booked to be the first act to play the new Wembley Stadium, on 9 June, as part of his European tour.

The latest act set to be the one to play the first gig at the new Wembley Stadium is George Michael. The singer is booked in to perform at the venue on 9 Jun as part of his upcoming European tour. Previous were-going-to-be-the-firsts include Bon Jovi, Robbie Williams and The Rolling Stones. Muse also previously announced that they would be the first as they're due to play the venue on 16 Jun, but it looks like they've been gazumped.

Wembley MD Alex Horne says this: "He's no stranger to this great stage having performed at the old stadium with both Wham at Live Aid and as a solo artist. This is a fitting first gig in the new stadium. We are looking forward to putting the stadium back on the world map as a major music destination".

They claim that the venue will be open for the FA Cup final on 19 May. Fingers crossed, eh?
