Girls Aloud set Guinness World Record for consecutive top 10 hits

Girls Aloud have entered the Guinness World Records book for the most consecutive UK top 10 singles by a female pop group, with sixteen, beating Destiny's Child's eleven.

Those Girls Aloud have set a new Guinness World Record, and it's not related to band member Sarah Harding's partying habits. The band entered the famous book after scoring the most consecutive top 10 chart positions in the UK charts by a female pop group, crushing Destiny's Child's meagre eleven top 10s with their sixteen.

Other updated pop records in the Guinness book include Madonna taking Cher's number one position for highest-grossing music tour per concert, as well as the most chart-topping albums by a female artist. Meanwhile, David Bowie and Robbie Williams remain atop the number one albums by a male artist chart, and The Rolling Stones unsurprisingly rack-up the award for the highest-grossing tour in history, beating their own previous record.

Elsewhere in the world of slightly weirder pop records, you get Jamiroquai recorded for his performance at 35,000 feet on a Boeing 737 - the world's highest gig - and Katie Melua as receipient of the lowest gig award for performing below sea level off the coast of Norway.
