Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis has told Radio 1 he avoided booking heavy rock bands like Slipknot or Green Day this year as he was worried they may put crowd safety at risk following the deaths of nine fans at Roskilde in Denmark two years ago. He felt heavy rock bands would cause the packed audience to be more riotous. Talking about this year’s line up, which some have said is weaker than past years, he also confirmed that he had approached Oasis and Radiohead to headline the event, but they had both turned him down. Glastonbury organisers are again urging anyone without a ticket to stay away from the site hoping that a million pound ‘superfence’ and Mean Fiddler’s security crew will prevent the mass fence hopping of past years – and estimated 100,000 people got in that way in 2000.
