GMG appoint new Smooth London chief

Gavin McCoy, a former Steve Wright writer, has been appointed Programme Controller of Smooth Radio London following the Saga network acquisition.

The Guardian Media Group has announced the appointment of Gavin McCoy, a former comedy sidekick to Steve Wright, to the role of Programme Controller of the London branch of Smooth Radio. The appointment follows the Guardian's acquisition of the Saga Radio network, and the rebranding of the Saga stations as Smooth Radio. McCoy, once a writer and team member on Steve Wrights Radio 1 show, was most recently Head Of Presentation at Saga Radio's digital network.

Announcing the appointment, GMG Radio Group Programme Director, John Simons, told reporters that McCoy "knows this market inside out and back to front so he is the perfect man to drive the station forward" adding that "he has the background of a presenter and the skills in management too, a great combination".
