Google and Amazon rumoured to be entering download business

The Financial Times reports Google and Amazon are planning iTunes style download services, though Google denies developing a music store or any Napster tie up.

Rumours continue to spread regarding Google's plans to enter the digital music sector with an iTunes style download service. The Financial Times has quoted music industry executives as saying they have been in talks with the internet company regarding their digital music plans. However Google bosses continue with the line that they are not currently developing a digital music store. They also deny rumours of a partnership with or possible takeover of subscription based download platform Napster.

The FT also reports that Amazon is planning an iTunes style download platform. Their service is reportedly further down the line, with a Spring launch a possibility.

The newspaper quotes one unnamed music industry chief executive as saying: "I do believe Amazon and Google will do something serious. We have had active communications in the last 60 days."
