Graham Coxon speaks out about leaving Blur

Graham Coxon has spoken about leaving Blur during the recording of 'Think Tank', saying he was an alcoholic mess and unhappy with the band's musical direction.

Graham Coxon has spoken out about his departure from Blur. The guitarist, of course, left the band during the recording of the group's 2003 album 'Think Tank', and, commenting on that period of time, Coxon says: "I was an alcoholic mess and not able to fulfil my obligations. The rest of the band could have stood back and seen I was having a terrible time. They could have tried to help. It raises the question of how responsible we felt for each other."

He adds that he wasn't happy with the musical direction Blur was taking: "We started turning into some kind of pompous, bloated, anthemic bullshit thing. I simply did as I was told. I spent too long putting my dignity on the back-burner for the sake of advancing the band's position."
