Healy on depression and songwriting

Travis's Fran Healy says he worried therapy for his depression might cost him his songwriting, and says his 2003 album '12 Memories' drew on sessions.

Travis chap Fran Healy has said that he was a bit worried about getting therapy for his depression, as he feared that curing it might lead to the loss of his songwriting talent. Some might argue that it has in fact, led to the loss of his songwriting talent, but I wouldn't, because I'm a latter day Travis fan and less fond of their early stuff.

Anyway, here's what the yearn-pop pixie says: "I wasn't really comfortable talking about this at the time it came out, but [2003 album] '12 Memories' was about going into therapy and the record was the therapy sessions. So I had three months of hypnotherapy instead, where you went back and fixed your memories. Because I'm the biggest blab, I will confide in everyone. But my worry about going into therapy was, what if I can't write songs anymore because I fixed the thing that makes me do it".
