Hip hop won the US election, says Dizzee

Dizzee Rascal told BBC Newsnight that hip hop encouraged young people to vote for Barack Obama, and joked about becoming Prime Minister.

Dizzee Rascal told BBC Newsnight on Wednesday that hip hop was behind Barack Obama's triumph in the US presidential elections this week.

Speaking to Jeremy Paxman, Dizzee said: "I don't think he could have won it without hip hop. Hip hop is what encouraged the youth to get involved in voting and making the place better. And he's the first president to embrace it".

Asked about his opinions on British politics, he said: "I don't know if I care". Paxman then asked him if he'd consider trying to become Prime Minister. Dizzee responded: "See, that's a very good idea. I might have to do that one day. Dizzee Rascal for prime minister, yeah!"
