Inquest confirms overdose theory re Rae's death

An initial inquest hearing heard Jason Rae's death is suspected to be a drugs overdose, with toxicology results still needed, and his body can now be released.

An initial inquest hearing into the death of the husband of Corinne Bailey Rae, saxophonist Jason Rae, yesterday formally heard what we already knew, that the Haggis Horns member died of a suspected drugs overdose, but that the results of toxicology tests are required to confirm that.

Deputy Assistant Coroner Roger Chapman told the inquest hearing at the Leeds Coroner's Court that there were no signs of trauma or violence or any significant natural disease signs, and a pathologist's report pointed to a "suspected drugs overdose", though more test results were still needed. As a result the hearing was adjourned to a date tbc, though the initial hearing means Rae's body can now be released to allow a funeral to take place. Rae's family did not attend the hearing.
