James Blunt has biggest selling album of the year

James Blunt's 'Back to Bedlam' is the year's biggest-selling album so far with 1.53 million copies, pushing Coldplay's 'X & Y' to second place.

Well, it's no surprise, is it, the way it's been hovering at the top of the album charts for what feels like a decade? So yes, James Blunt's 'Back to Bedlam' is the biggest selling album of the year so far. I have a like-loathe relationship with Mr Blunt (I'm sure he feels the same about me), but today I love him. Because his 1.53million-copy-selling debut has pushed Coldplay's terminally dreary 'X & Y' into the number 2 spot. Well done, James. CMU salutes you.

Kaiser Chiefs came in third in album sales with 'Employment'. In single sales, meanwhile, James Blunt rears his not-pretty-but-not-ugly head again, appearing near the top with that song that's begun to make me feel a bit tired, 'You're Beautiful', but denied a double whammy by that confounded Crazy Frog with his 'Axel F' cover, and the lovely Tony Christie's 'Amarillo'.
