John Lennon's killer Mark Chapman denied parole again

Mark Chapman has been denied parole for the fifth time and will remain in New York's Attica prison at least until 2010.

John Lennon's killer Mark Chapman has been denied parole for the fifth time because of "concern for the public safety and welfare". He will now remain in New York's Attica prison at least until 2010.

The parole board said Chapman's conduct had "precipitated a horrendously tragic event which has impacted many individuals. [His] discretionary release at this time would thus not be compatible with the welfare of society at large".

Yoko Ono's lawyer said that she was "very pleased" with the decision.
