Kinks Corner shrine to be auctioned as Clissold Arms becomes a gastropub

The Kinks are unhappy that a shrine to the band at The Clissold Arms in Muswell Hill will be auctioned as the venue is redeveloped into a gastropub.

The Kinks are a bit cross because a wee shrine to the band at The Clissold Arms in Muswell Hill - the London venue they first performed in - is to be sold off as the building becomes a gastropub. 'Kinks Corner' will be put up for auction once redevelopment of the property begins. The band's Ray Davies has sent an open letter to the pub's boss Caroline Jones urging her to rethink the move, plus fans, many of whom have visited the bar in pilgrimage, have also sent letters of complaint.

Ray Davies said he was "genuinely disappointed" about the decision, whilst brother Dave asked "Have they lost their dignity, sense of local history and English heritage?". Ray told the Hornsey And Crouch End Journal: "Whatever the outcome, one thing is certain; The Kinks and their music will always be inextricably linked with north London and the Fortis Green area in particular. Long after gastronomic styles have come and gone".
