Lennon killer's parole interview released

A transcript of Mark Chapman's failed parole interview from Attica Correctional Facility has been released, with Chapman reflecting on killing John Lennon.

A transcript of Mark Chapman's failed bid to be released on parole from New York's Attica Correctional Facility, where he is serving a life sentence for the murder of John Lennon, has been released.

In the interview, Chapman said: "I recognised that that 25-year-old man, I don't think he really appreciated the life that he was taking, that this was a human being. I feel now at 53 I have grown into a deeper understanding of what a human life is. I have changed a lot. I would be something other than a nobody, and that was my reasoning at the time".

Chapman, who has now served 28 years in prison, will remain incarcerated until at least August 2010, when his next parole hearing is due to take place.
