Legendary musician, producer and film maker Don Letts is celebrating the release of his new compilation on Heavenly records - 'Dread Meets B-Boys Downtown (The Hip Hop sound of New York '81-'82) - with a free party at the The Social, Little Portland Street, W1 on 10 August. We're promised a special DJ shakedown featuring Letts and infamous DJ Greg Wilson.
Don's album, released on 23 Aug - which will include the premiere of the Clash's 'Outside Broadcast' - will be something of an encyclopaedia of punk, funk and electro boogie with tracks by Kraftwerk, Fab Five Freddy, The Fearless Four, Grandmaster Flash and the Incredible Bongo Band.
Wilson who was the first DJ to do NYC style turntable sets at Manchester's Hacienda in the 80s, has come out of retirement especially for the event. The fun starts at 7.30pm and what's more it's free.
