Libertines top cool poll

Pete Doherty and Carl Barat top the NME's 2004 Cool List, with The Streets' Mike Skinner at two and Eminem at three.

As you know kids, drugs aren't cool. That said, CMU's favourite drug addict Pete Doherty has topped the NME's Cool List for 2004, which perhaps questions that logic. That said, he is joined at the top of the list by former band-mate Carl Barat - which possibly says it's the music and not the drugs that secure you cool status, though we're not convinced.

Other artists included on the list include The Streets' Mike Skinner (at two), Eminem (at three), Morrissey (at six) and Gwen Stefani (at nineteen) - suggesting that being cocky, offensive, arrogant or completely bonkers are also routes to cool-dom

The full list is published in this week's NME.
