You'd be forgiven for thinking that a DJ marathon featuring the likes of the Cuban Brothers Virtual MCs, the Fingerlickin Allstars (Plump DJs, Soul of Man, Lee Coombs), Dub Pistols + Stix MC, Wall Of Sound DJs (including Alvin C), Freestylers + MC, Border Crossing, Blade (live PA), Jadell, GoHomeProductions and IDC had been months in the making. But the Remix Live At The Metropolitan day being staged by Xfm's Eddy TM this Sunday was but a mere drunken idea this time last month.
Eddy TM explains: "It started around the table at The Metropolitan pub in Westbourne Park a few weeks ago. I was meeting Barry [Ashworth of the Dub Pistols] about a competition we are currently running on the Remix show. He introduced me to the pub's guvnor Nick who told me that Barry held the record there for highest bartake during a DJ set. Barry joked that me and him together could surely smash that record. That idea stuck, but it wasn't until we heard the next week that Alvin from Wall Of Sound and Peta had subsequently broken Barry's record a few days later that we consider the gauntlet to actually have been thrown before us. From that point we made a few calls... sent a few emails....and before you know it you've got enough talent to sell out a small festival...and it's in a boozer!"
More special guests are expected to the added to the bill, which kicks off at 2pm. From 6pm to 9pm the Remix show on Xfm will broadcast live from the party.
