In the whole scheme of things the fact a few gigs have been postponed doesn't seem that important, but as we all attempt to get back to normality following yesterday's central London bomb blasts such logistical detail is probably worthy of mention.
Yesterday, as police asked people to stay away from central London while emergency services coped with the fall out of the four blasts, gig promoters and West End producers each announced they were canceling the majority of events due to take place in the capital last night, including Blue at Wembley Pavilion, Sum 41 at The Astoria, Nate James at Shepherd's Bush Empire, Love at the Islington Academy, The Prodigy at the Brixton Academy and the Queens Of The Stone Age's concert at Somerset House.
Some major events due to take place today and tomorrow have also been postponed, with concerns over how quickly the city's public transport system will recover after the whole underground network and the central bus network ground to a halt yesterday. Those postponements include Queen and REM's Hyde Park gigs, which will now take place on 15 and 16 Jul.
Commenting on the events in London yesterday, Queen guitarist Brian May told reporters: "We're all devastated to wake up and see the appalling bombing in London. Our hearts go out to all those innocents so cruelly attacked."
The specifics of the postponements that CMU is aware of are as follows:
- Last night's Nate James gig at the Shepherds Bush Empire will now take place on 5 Oct.
- Last night's Prodigy gig at the Brixton Academy will now take place on 7 Aug.
- Last night's Love gig at Carling Academy Islington will now take place on 14 Jul. However there is a high chance Arthur Lee will now not appear at this gig, instead LOVE singer songwriter & guitarist Johnny Echols will front the show. If this happens fans who attend the show will receive an £8 refund.
- Last night's Sum 41 gig at the Astoria was cancelled. Promoters hope to announce a new date within the band's current UK tour in the next few days.
- Last night's Queens Of Stone Age gig at both Koko and Somerset House were cancelled, rescheduled dates expected to be announced next week. Other Somerset House dates unlikely to be affected but check: http://www.somerset-house.org.uk
