Martin and Bono head to head over Stipe lunchbox

Chris Martin won a charity auction for a lunchbox designed by Michael Stipe with a $20,000 bid, beating Bono to the item.

Chris Martin and Bono both tried to buy a lunchbox designed by Michael Stipe at a charity auction in New York at the weekend. Martin emerged the victor with a winning bid of $20,000. The lunchbox was one of many customised by a variety of stars including Brad Pitt, Clint Eastwood and Angelina Jolie. Bono, whose bandmate The Edge got a box designed by former US President Bill Clinton, joked about his head to head with Martin, saying: "It was death by Coldplay."

I know how he feels. I've come close to Death By Coldplay on occasion myself.
