Mean Fiddler can choose from two sites for Leeds Fest

Local authorities have granted Mean Fiddler permission to use its usual Temple Newsam site for Leeds Festival, and promoter Melvin Benn will decide between the two sites within 24 hours.

After news earlier this week that Mean Fiddler had secured a licence for a contingency site for their Leeds Festival, local authorities elsewhere in town have now given permission for them to use their usual site at Temple Newsam Park. The promoter had put a contingency site in place because there was strong opposition from locals in the Temple Newsam area after rioting last year and many expected a licence to be denied.

Mean Fiddler's Melvin Benn is now deciding which of the two sites to use. He told NME: "I have told the council I will make a decision within 24 hours. It's a case of weighing up the different options - the familiarity and beauty of Temple Newsam or the chance of a fresh start at Bramham."

Either way there is likely to be ban on bottles and glasses at this years Leeds Festival, and non-combustible toilets will be used and increased security hired, in a bid to stop the rioting that marred the end of last year's festival..
