Another day, another Doherty update. And Tory leader **Michael
Howard** has got the former Libertine back into the headlines by complaining that the former Libertine is always in the headlines.
Super. Howard complained to reporters: "Here you have a man who takes drugs and gets locked up - yet ends up on the front pages".
The
Tory boss continued: "Today, more than ever, we need responsible role models for our children - professional athletes prepared to say drugs are wrong, pop stars willing to say drugs aren't cool, actors who make clear that drugs ruin lives. Because we all know that youngsters are more influenced than ever before by the celebrities they see on TV, the musicians they listen to and who are featured in magazines." He's right of course, though he's ignoring the fact that the minute a celebrity starts ranting about how bad drugs are they cease to be cool, and therefore cease to influence gullible teenagers. Ah well, it was a nice idea.
No word on what Howard thinks about Tory supporting former Busted boy Charlie Simpson appearing on the cover of gay mag Attitude with smoke coming out of his mouth - hey Busted fans, smoking is very cool (and it has to be said, he does look rather cool on that particular cover). That said, the Tory's have always been less draconian when it comes to smoking, what with all those affluent friends over there in the tobacco industry.
Anyway, back to Pete, and the NME reports that Babyshambles will be playing their third gig of the week at Queens Of Noize's Gilded
Palace Of Sin this Saturday (26 Feb) at London's 100 Club. The good news is this is an afternoon gig (due to kick off at 2pm)
so no problems meeting that 10pm curfew.
