Moshi Moshi launch singles club

Moshi Moshi is launching a singles series this autumn featuring Matt & Kim, Emmy The Great, Simian and Dananananaykroyd, released on an ad hoc basis.

Moshi Moshi are the latest label to launch a singles club (Didn't someone else launch one last week? Oh yes, Regal. Ah well, with legendary singles label Fierce Panda moving on to albums releases, I guess there's a need, even with Shifty Disco maintaining it's steady stream of quality monthly single releases).

Moshi Moshi Singles will launch in the Autumn with tracks from Matt & Kim, Emmy The Great, Simian and Dananananaykroyd all lined up. Unlike most singles clubs, the Moshi Moshi singles will not come out on a regular monthly cycle but on an adhoc basis (which, pedants might say, means it's not technically a singles club at all, but you pedants can go and sit in the corner and keep quiet).

Gigwise quote co-label boss Michael McCartney thus: "You could say Moshi Moshi has been built on one-off single releases. It's how the label got its name known, and it's how we got the opportunity to work with great bands like Bloc Party and The Rakes. However, in the past couple of years we've been moving away from one-off releases to concentrate on developing bands over albums, starting with Hot Chip, then Architecture In Helsinki, Tilly and The Wall, Lo-Fi-Fnk and Hot Club de Paris. But there's still so much more we want to do. Plus we have a slightly nerdy teenage attachment to the 7". There's something wonderfully genuine and indulgent about just releasing a single because you like the band or the song. Especially at a time when there is so much great music around and the 7" market is thriving".
