Moyles TV show axed

Channel 5 has axed Chris Moyles's teatime show after it missed audience targets, and will replace it with a programme fronted by Christian O'Connell.

Channel 5’s much hyped teatime show fronted by Chris Moyles and produced by Chris Evans has been axed after it failed to reach its audience targets. Both Evans and Moyles always stressed the zoo format show broadcast live from a pub in Kings Cross was a niche show aimed at young men. But Channel 5 set a target of half a million viewers, and, despite some peaks at 600,000 in October, it averaged between 300,000 and 400,000, the kind of figures the station was already getting for that slot. Some shows fell below 100,000 viewers.

The show will be replaced by a new programme fronted by Xfm breakfast show presenter Christian O’Connell.

Evans will be hoping for more success for his new show for Channel 4 - Boys and Girls – a game in which 100 boys and 100 girls compete for a £100,000 prize. It will be hosted by T4’s Vernon Kay.
