Mud free Wireless launches

Clear Channel's Wireless festival launched in Hyde Park with 20,000 fans a day, and Keane and Kasabian will headline the final two days this week.

Away from the Somerset mud, one of the UK's newest festivals kicked off on Friday too - Clear Channel's Wireless festival, which is taking place over four days in Hyde Park. 20,000 gig goers a day saw the likes of New Order, Basement Jaxx, Moby and a host of newer artists play on four stages on Friday and Saturday - and with very little mud to contend with. The remaining two days of Wireless take place this week on Wednesday and Thursday, when Keane and Kasabian will be headlining the proceedings.

Commenting on the launch of the new festival event, Clear Channel's Festival Director Stuart Galbraith told CMU: "We are obviously delighted with the success of the first O2 Music Wireless Festival. Over 20,000 music fans per day enjoyed dozens of great bands, decent weather and a complete festival experience right in the heart of the capital. No-one got stuck in traffic jams, no-one's tent got washed away and everybody got to go home on public transport to sleep in their own beds. Having seen the shocking pictures from Glastonbury all I can say is, I'm desperately sorry for all the people who got caught up in the events and I'm glad I was here!"
