Music Zone to close 31 stores as search for buyer continues

Music Zone, in administration, is closing 31 stores with 325 job losses, leaving 72 shops, while administrators Deloitte seek a buyer.

Music retailer Music Zone, which, as previously reported, went into administration last week, has announced it is closing down 31 of its outlets, resulting in 325 job losses. The company's administrators, Deloitte, who are currently seeking a buyer for the chain, say that there is just not a business case for keeping the 31 closing stores open. Following that move the chain will now operate 72 shops around the country.

Confirming the store closures, Deloitte's Bill Dawson told reporters: "During the first week of trading [after going into administration], the administrators spent a considerable amount of time assessing the viability of the business and the difficult decision was taken to close a number of stores. However, we have commenced a marketing strategy to seek a buyer of the business as a going concern and continue to work hard to achieve a positive result for Music Zone".
