You'd think that when you have a band name as long as The Boy Least Likely To that someone wouldn't have already nabbed your MySpace title when you go register your page, but presumably TBLLT didn't get to MySpace quite quick enough, hence the UK bit at the end of their address. Whatever, I've become something of a fan of The Boy Least Likely To in the last six months, mainly thanks to their rather wonderful late night Bestival performance, though I was getting slightly enthusiastic about their tunes prior to that event. While for some their quirky sound might be a little too, I don't know - twee, I suppose - I really like it. Which is probably why I like their cover version of George Michael's 'Faith' so much. A live favourite, I've only just realised (probably rather belatedly) that there is a recording of this cover, and it is here on their MySpace, hence the MSOTD tip. The song is seemingly quite special to the band, with one half of the duo, Peter, explaining that his love for pop music, and Wham! In particular, stemmed from an issue of Smash Hits (RIP) he got when he was eight years old: "That issue and Wham! in particular changed my life forever. Before then I had wanted to be a football player, but from that day on I wanted to be a pop star. I didn't listen to Wham! forever, I just grew out of them I guess. It often happens that way. But I will never forget how much they meant to me". Anyway, it's a great cover, and you can check it out, plus some of their original tunes, here on the MySpace. And there are quite a few upcoming tour dates listed too, which is good news because, as I said, these guys are great live. CC http://www.myspace.com/theboyleastlikelytouk
