Napster add another 200,000 tracks to UK service

Napster says its UK catalogue now exceeds 700,000 tracks after adding 200,000 more, including material from the five majors and the Association of Independent Music.

Napster have announced their UK music catalogue now has in excess of 700,000 tracks. The Roxio owned download service launched over here last month of course, with half a million tracks available. On Friday a further 200,000 tracks were added, making Napster the biggest download service in Britain. The tracks come from the five major labels and from Naspter's deal with the Association of Independent Music.

Confirming the increase in tracks, Napster vice-president and UK General Manager, Leanne Sharman told reporters: "Not only does Napster offer UK fans the widest range of features of any online music service, it also offers the richest, deepest treasure trove of music to delve into."

Competition in the UK download market will increase again later this month when Sony Connect simultaneously launches around the world. Apple iTunes, who kick started the latest phase in music downloading, are still to confirm details of their European roll out plans.
