Rumour has it Warner Bros produced a holiday album to make staff eligible to vote for the Grammys; NARAS chief Neil Portnow says he is watching the practice.

Rumour has it a holiday album produced by Warner Bros recently involving a whole host of label staff was done so that said staff members would be eligible to join the US based National Associations of Recording Arts & Sciences and secure voting rights for the Grammys (presumably so they can vote for WB acts). The rules of the US academy state that ‘any member who has technical or creative credit on six commercially released songs — from vocalists to liner note writers — can be eligible to cast his or her ballot in the competition’.

NARAS chief Neil Portnow has said that he is keeping a close eye on the practice. Warner Bros spokespeople insist that the album was recorded solely to raise money for a post-9/11 charity.
