More details have been confirmed about next month's John Peel Day.
First up, New Order have been confirmed as headliners for a special concert dedicated to the late great Radio 1 DJ. The event, which will take place at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall on 12 Oct and will also feature The Fall and Super Furry Animals, will precede the previously reported day of events being coordinated by Radio 1 under the banner John Peel Day. More than 300 gigs are being organized on 13 Oct, with concerts being held in Spain, Germany, New Zealand, Canada and the US, as well as all over the UK. Radio 1 will also broadcast a six hour show marking the occasion.
Announcing the latest plans for John Peel Day, Radio 1 boss Andy Parfitt told reporters: "The amount of music lovers who have got involved in Peel Day to stage gigs is amazing. With the London gig happening as well now it feels like a fitting way to honour John's memory."
