New South London venue hopes to be antidote to superclubs

The refurbished Coronet venue in Elephant & Castle, with 2,100 capacity, reopens with club nights, live music and cinema, programmed by Dan Norman.

The people behind the revamped and refurbished Coronet venue in South London's Elephant & Castle, which has an industry launch party this week, say they hope the new club venue will appeal to "a young London tired of corporate 'superclubs' and pre-packaged entertainment". The 2,100 capacity Art Deco building, formerly a theatre and cinema, has been empty since 1999. The revamped venue will house regular club nights, live music, art house cinema screenings and special events. Dan Norman, formerly the programmer at London nightclub Heaven, will programme the Coronet's club nights.
