The current New York scene will be anthologized in a new compilation later this year called 'YES New York'. The album makes reference to 'No New York', the 1978 Brian Eno produced album which featured songs by local underground acts of the time like Contortions, DNA, Mars, and Teenage Jesus and the Jerks. The new fifteen track collection, released by Wolfgang Morden, an imprint of Vice Records, will feature Interpol, Longwave, a live version of the Strokes' 'New York City Cops' and an acoustic version of 'Our Time' performed by Unitard, a side project of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Talking about the scene the compilation pays tribute to executive producers Chris White and Brian Long told reporters: "As transplants to New York, we had spent a decade watching the New York rock scene kinda suck with too many Heartbreaker wannabes and noisy sound-alikes. In the spring of 2002 the 'scene' seemed to crystallize. Suddenly there were a lot of really interesting rock bands happening right now - and they didn't all sound the same." Some proceeds from the album will go to Musicians on Call, a project which promotes the use of music as part of healing therapy in healthcare facilities.
