NME name Stone Roses as best album ever

NME readers' poll names The Stone Roses' debut album as the best album ever, with Pixies' Doolittle second and The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds third.

In the latest random survey the NME has named The Stone Roses' eponymously titled debut LP, hastily recorded during an all nighter studio session in 1989, as the best album ever. The new survey, based on the votes of NME writers, is mainly filled with predictable classic albums with only a handful of recent releases making it into the Top 100. The Top 10 is here – the full chart is in this week's NME:

1. The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses

2. Pixies - Doolittle

3. The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

4. Television - Marquee Moon

5. The Beatles - Revolver

6. Love - Forever Changes

7. The Strokes - Is This It

8. The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead

9. The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico

10. The Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks
