NME plan hologram cover

NME will feature a 3D hologram of Pete Doherty on its cover, funded by phone operator O2, to celebrate its Cool List.

While we're on media news, do look out for NME this week, which will come with a 3D hologram on the cover! Apparently the first time a magazine has had a hologram that filled the entire front page, the hi-tech cover is being funded by phone operator O2, presumably because holograms on the front of music magazines make you immediately think "oh yeah, I must buy a new mobile phone".

The cover will celebrate the launch of the NME's Cool List for this year. The magazine's publishing director Neil Robinson told Media Week: "The Cool List generates big sales and a big reaction among readers and critics alike. With this fantastic, attention-grabbing cover we hope there will be even more excitement around the issue. Innovation is at the heart of the NME brand and the lenticular cover is a perfect example of two brands working together to continue to break boundaries."

Chris Pyne of O2's advertising agency ZenithOptimedia said: "The NME Cool List offered 02 the perfect vehicle to showcase its new range of phones in a fresh and different way. It's a great example of advertisers and publishers working together."

The cover will feature a super-realistic holographic picture of Libertine-in-exile Pete Doherty. Of course, if it was really realistic he wouldn't show up at the last minute leaving an empty cover and lots of pissed off readers.
