No charges for Brandy over crash

Police in LA say there is insufficient evidence to charge Brandy over a fatal 2006 four-car crash, though civil action by the victim's family continues.

It was announced over Christmas that R&B star Brandy will not face charges over that previously reported fatal car accident in California a year ago.

As previously reported, Brandy Norwood was accused of being the "contributing party" in a four car pile up that took place on the San Diego freeway on 30 Dec 2006, in which one Awatef Aboudihaj was killed. However, police in LA have said there is "insufficient evidence" for a jury to find the singer/actress guilty of vehicular manslaughter. They added that there was no evidence that the singer had been under the influence of drink or drugs at the time of the crash, or that she had been using a mobile phone.

A lawyer for the singer said she was "extremely pleased" about the police's decision, adding: "These past twelve months have been extraordinarily hard for Brandy and her family". Civil action by Aboudihaj's family is ongoing.
