OfCom awards community licences in North West

Media regulator OfCom has awarded four community radio licences in the North West, with five other applications rejected.

Media regulator OfCom has just awarded four new community radio licences in the North West, though five applications in the region were turned down. The successful community stations were KCC Live in Knowsley, Moorlands Radio in Biddulph, Rossendale Radio in the Rossendale Valley and Canalside Radio in Macclesfield.

Canalside's Nick Wright is quoted by Radiotoday thus: "After four years hard work Canalside has finally achieved its goal - the chance to bring to East Cheshire a truly outstanding community radio service that is run on a 'not for profit' basis".

Among those not winning a licence this time were Halt FM in Altrincham, Tatton FM in the Alderley Edge, Kat FM in Crewe and Nantwich and CCM in Congleton.
